Fashion Spotlight Shines on Shanghai: Highlights from Shanghai Fashion Week
The fashion spotlight has officially shifted to Shanghai as Chinese designers gear up to showcase their latest looks for spring and summer 2020 at Shanghai Fashion Week. With more than 40 labels set to stage runway shows at the main venue of Xintiandi, the city is buzzing with excitement.
Leading the pack is local brand Lily, fresh off its debut at the 2020 Spring-Summer New York Fashion Week. Known for its daily outfits for professional women, Lily is featuring brisk denim jumpsuits, wide-shoulder blazers, tweed jackets, and coats in sharp and clean silhouettes. Colorful knit one-pieces and see-through blouses add a soft touch to the collection.
Other standout designers to watch out for include Ban Xiaoxue, Anirac, and At-One-Ment by Wanbing Huang, as well as newcomers like ShortSentence and Damowang. The return of home-grown label JudyHua is also highly anticipated.
Labelhood, a magnet for young talents, will showcase works by 22 emerging local designers at MingSheng Wharf on the East Bund under the theme of “Out of World.” The presentation will feature avant-garde styles for men and women, embracing maximalism and genderlessness.
In addition, 26 labels from home and abroad will present their spring/summer collections for kids’ fashion at 800Show in Jingan District. The 11-day event, which will wrap up on October 20, will also feature trade shows and showrooms across the city to connect fashion producers with buyers and enhance business and trade.
Sustainability, technology, and local design force are key themes of this year’s insider talks and affiliated events. The Kering Group will hold a K Generation award ceremony to honor start-ups for their sustainable efforts in clothes production. Italian luxury house Marni will announce a collaboration with Chinese Miao ethnic craftspeople to promote Miao embroidery craftsmanship and culture. Global fashion influencer Business of Fashion will unveil a documentary celebrating the rising Chinese design force in the international fashion industry.
With all these exciting developments, Shanghai Fashion Week is sure to be a must-attend event for fashionistas, influencers, and buyers alike.
